Mason Advances to Regional Semifinals

Mustangs will face Stuarts Draft at Strasburg High on Thursday.

The George Mason High boy’s basketball team had no problem knocking Randolph Henry out of the Virginia High School League Region B quarterfinals Tuesday night in a 56-44 win.

The Mustangs will now face Stuarts Draft in the semifinals Thursday night at Strasburg High.

The high-flying dunk act was no match for the Mustang’s shooting. Senior Philippe Griffiths scored 11 of his 14-points in the first half connecting on four three-pointers. He said the Statesmen played off him and left him open for shots throughout the game.

“It’s been a while since I had open shots like that,” Griffiths said. “I had a stretch when nothing was going in.”

Chris Capannola said some of the plays he called were to blame for some of the Mustangs turnovers. He said his team didn’t play their best game but they did better in the second half when Mason held Randolph Henry to 25-points.
