Meridian High School Awarded LEED Gold Certification
Meridian High School received the certification by utilizing environmentally friendly building practices, the school district said.

FALLS CHURCH, VA —Meridian High School in Falls Church was recently awarded the prestigious LEED gold certification, Falls Church City Public Schools announced.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the certification is the most widely used green building rating system globally.
Through design, construction, and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable, the school district said.

“It was quite a tall task because it was the first time USGBC was using a new LEED scorecard, a much more rigorous approach to getting the designation,” Superintendent Peter Noonan said in a news release. “Anything that you can do in that building that reduces your carbon footprint increases your score for LEED."
School officials said Meridian High School achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
