Mike Whitfield Promoted to Director of Public Works
Whitfield previously worked as the city's construction manager and served as the interim director since since mid-August.

After an extensive search, the City of Falls Church has selected Mike Whitfield as Director of Public Works. Mr. Whitfield was hired by the City in 2014 as the Construction Manager and has been serving as the interim Director since Mike Collins left in mid-August.
“I am very pleased that Mike will be leading the Public Works team,” said City Manager Wyatt Shields. “He brings extensive experience with a wide range of project management as well as a focus on citizen-oriented customer service, accountability, and an understanding of team building to achieve big goals.”

In the City of Falls Church, Mr. Whitfield has managed a number of large projects including the roadbed reconstruction projects for South West Street and Roosevelt Boulevard.Mr. Whitfield’s public service experience includes working for Pinellas County, Florida, where he was the project manager for the award-winning Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, a fire and EMS training facility and many more projects. He also has extensive experience in project management for private construction companies.
Mr. Whitfield is a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and holds a B.S. in Engineering as well as an M.B.A.
