Mustang Soccer Star Signs With Richmond
Violet Miller signed National Letter of Intent Wednesday.
After mulling over offers and interest from some of the nation’s best collegiate soccer programs, Violet Miller has decided on where she will call home for the next four years.
In front of family, friends and coaches outside the gymnasium at George Mason High Wednesday, Miller signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Richmond.
“In the end I narrowed it down to Richmond, Colgate University and Northeastern University,” said Miller, 17, of Falls Church. “Richmond just stood out to me.”

The soccer star said she started visiting different colleges as a junior, looking to see where she would fit in best. With the recruitment process over for her, Miller said she can get back to just having fun. She said doesn’t know how much she’ll play right off in college, but she feels confident she will get in some games next season.
“He [Richmond Women’s Soccer Head Coach Peter Albright] thinks I’ll definitely play in some games next season, I just don’t know how much I’ll play,” Miller said.

Jen Parsons, head coach for the Mustangs girl’s soccer team, said she is happy for Miller who will be attending her alma mater’s rival. Parsons played soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University. She said she feels good knowing one of her former college teammates is an assistant coach with the Spiders women’s soccer team.
“She’s a very coachable player,” Parsons said. “She gave 110 percent in practice and games. I think it’s a perfect fit for her.”
Miller is a three-year starter for the Mustangs and has helped her team to three consecutive Virginia High School League Group A state championships. Throughout the reigning 2010 Bull Run District Region B Player of the Year’s high school career, Miller has scored 76 goals en route to earning first-team All-Bull Run District, All-Region and All-State honors all three years. Miller also helped the MPS Azul team win the Virginia State Cup Championship from 2006 through 2009 and again in 2011.
Miller said she is very excited and a bit nervous to be attending college in the fall. She said all of her high school teammates and family are excited for her. Being at Richmond will allow for her family and friends to make some of her games and that’s a calming thought she said.
“At first I wanted to get far away,” Miller said. “Richmond isn’t that far away that people can’t come see me play but far enough for me to still be away.”
