Pedestrian Killed Crossing Leesburg Pike
The 71-year-old man was attempting to cross the road outside of the crosswalk, according to Fairfax County Police.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A pedestrian was killed trying to cross Leesburg Pike on Wednesday afternoon, according to Fairfax County Police.
Medardo Carrillo Arias, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the area of Leesburg Pike and Glen Carlyn Road.

A 2012 Jeep Wrangler was turning onto Leesburg Pike when Arias was trying to cross the street outside of the crosswalk, according to crash investigators.
"The driver of the Jeep attempted to avoid the pedestrian, however, was unable to and Mr. Arias was struck," according to a police statement. "The driver of the Jeep stopped immediately and remained on-scene."

The driver of the Jeep was not injured. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
