The original house was built in 1850 by Spencer Mottrom Ball but was destroyed during the Civil War. After the war, Ball’s son William Selwyn returned to Elmwood, building the log “Bachelor’s Hall” in 1876 and the larger house in 1879.

In D.C.'s Kalorama neighborhood, a townhome, with four finished levels, is on the market. The home features grand entertaining spaces with original architectural detail for formal entertaining or modern living throughout.
