Chance for Severe Thunderstorms This Week in Falls Church

Summer temperatures, summer thunderstorms on their way Monday and the rest of this week.

Update 9:30 p.m. Monday -- Monday night’s chances of severe thunderstorms have passed, but residents may see a repeat of Monday’s weather through much of this week. Expect sunny and warm mornings, hot mid-day temperatures and a chance of severe scattered thunderstorms through Thursday.

Falls Church is under a severe thunderstorm watch through 10 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

“The atmosphere is juiced and storms are organizing to the west, setting the stage for a round of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, a few of which may be severe,” according to the Capital Weather Gang.

Already, some areas north and west have switched from watches to warnings.

Following a high temperature of 90 degrees early Monday afternoon, forecasters expect temperatures to drop into the mid-70s with a chance for isolated thunderstorms Monday night.

The chance for isolated thunderstorms and high temperatures continues Tuesday, with morning sunshine, a high temperature topping 90 degrees and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. The pattern may continue Wednesday and Thursday.
