Stolen Van's Camera Snaps Photo of Possible Thief: Police

Police say the van's camera system took a photo of the alleged suspect in the theft of the van in the Falls Church area.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Did a camera system take a photo of the man who stole the van? Fairfax County Police auto theft detectives are checking it out and asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man (photo above) who allegedly stole a 2008 Ford Econoline 350 on Thursday, August 25.

An investigation determined the victim, a 55-year-old man, parked his work van in the 6000 block of Arlington Boulevard, in the Falls Church area, around 2 a.m. He returned a few hours later around 6:20 a.m. and the van was gone, police said.

Further investigation revealed the van was equipped with a camera system and officers obtained a photo of a possible suspect, according to police. The suspect appears to have followed a dump truck that may be related to this incident.

The van was recovered later the same day in Hyattsville, Md.; however, the suspect was not located.

The suspect was described as black, 40 to 50 years old, with a goatee and wore glasses.
