Fugitive Wanted In AL Arrested At Fredericksburg Hotel After Armed Robbery

A man wanted by police in Alabama was arrested Friday in connection to an armed robbery at a Fredericksburg business, authorities say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A man wanted on a fugitive from justice warrant out of Alabama was arrested Friday in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at a Fredericksburg-area business, according to authorities.

Deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 10200 block of Patriot Highway for the report of an armed robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that a man with a weapon entered the business, pushed past the clerk and stole cash from the register before fleeing the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The clerk was not injured.

Multiple units and additional resources, including K9 teams, were used to search the area. Eventually, authorities tracked the suspect to a nearby hotel room, where he was taken into custody, according to the incident report. Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department assisted in the search.

SCSO charged 34-year-old Michael Kirksey of Alabama with robbery and he was served with the outstanding warrant from Alabama, according to the incident report.

Kirksey was arraigned Monday morning in Spotsylvania County District Court on a felony fugitive without warrant charge, according to court documents. He is due back in court on July 7 for sentencing.

Deputies quickly established a perimeter and began an intensive investigation. Multiple units, including K9 teams and additional resources, were deployed to the area to locate the suspect. These coordinated efforts led investigators to a nearby hotel room, where the suspect was successfully apprehended.

Michael Kirksey, 34, of Alabama, was arrested and charged with Robbery. A Fugitive from Justice warrant was also obtained after it was confirmed that Kirksey was wanted in Alabama for a parole violation.
