AL Man Arrested In Double Murder Of Spotsylvania Couple

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — An Alabama man has been arrested and charged in the Jan. 25 fatal shooting of a Spotsylvania County couple, authorities said Friday.

Danny Hale Sr., 61, of Opelika, Alabama, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the deaths of 61-year-old Charles Childress and 59-year-old Kimberly Newcomb, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

According to authorities, sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive around 10:30 a.m. after a caller reported finding a deceased woman's body inside the residence.

When deputies arrived, they found Childress and Newcomb’s bodies in the home. Both were deceased, according to the sheriff’s office.

The bodies were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was performed. The chief medical examiner confirmed that Childress and Newcomb died after being shot several times. Their deaths were ruled homicides, according to authorities.

Hale is currently being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
