Brawl At Unsanctioned Car Meet Ends In 5 Stabbings: Sheriff

Spotsylvania County Sheriff's deputies arrested one suspect in connection to a brawl with injuries that occurred early Sunday, reports say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man they say was involved in a fight at an impromptu car meet on Sunday that led to five people being stabbed, according to authorities.

In the early morning hours, deputies responded to the report of a stabbing in the 4800 block of Southpoint Parkway, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputies arrived at a chaotic scene where people were dispersed in various directions. While others who were injured had already reported to the hospital for medical treatment, deputies found multiple victims at the scene.

“Deputies immediately rendered life-saving medical aid and coordinated with Spotsylvania Fire Rescue to transport the injured to local hospitals,” according to the incident report. “Deputies were also dispatched to area hospitals to identify and speak with additional victims. In total, five stabbing victims were located, ranging in age from 15 to 20 years old.”

A preliminary investigation revealed that the meet-up escalated into a fight, which grew into a large-scale brawl, according to the sheriff’s office. The car meet was not an organized or permitted event.

Investigators identified Lenox Shelton as a suspect. He was arrested, charged with malicious wounding, and taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond, according to the incident report. Investigators say additional arrests are possible.

Shelton was arraigned in Spotsylvania General District Court on Monday morning, and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 20, according to court documents.

If Shelton is found guilty of malicious wounding, which is a Class 3 felony, he faces a potential sentence of five to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, under the Code of Virginia.
