Combative Suspect Tazed, Pepper-Sprayed By Spotsylvania Deputies

A 27-year-old man is facing assault and battery charges after fighting with Spotsylvania sheriff's deputies early Sunday, authorities say.

Nikoalis Conley, 27, was charged with two counts of assault on law enforcement and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer of a firearm, as well as other charges in connection to a robbery early Sunday west of Fredericksburg City.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 27-year-old man who fought with Spotsylvania sheriff’s deputies early Sunday and tried to take a deputy’s firearm remains in custody facing multiple assault charges, according to authorities.

Deputies responded around 2:07 a.m. for the report of a burglary in the 6800 block of Red Rose Village, according to the sheriff’s office.

The resident who contacted authorities told deputies they found a man they knew inside their home, even though he was not permitted to be there, according to reports. The suspect forced his way into the home by breaking a window screen.

“When they attempted to take him into custody, the suspect immediately began striking one deputy,” according to the incident report. “Another deputy deployed a Taser, which proved ineffective. The suspect continued to violently resist, wrapping his arms around one deputy’s waist and attempting to remove the deputy’s firearm from its holster. The deputy was able to maintain control of his weapon through weapons-retention training, while another deputy successfully deployed pepper spray into the suspect’s eyes.”

The suspect released the deputy and continued to fight, but he was eventually taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect was treated on the scene by emergency medical personnel from the Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue. No deputies were reported injured.

Nikoalis Conley of an undetermined address was charged with two counts of assault on law enforcement, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer of a firearm, obstruction of justice with force, larceny, trespassing and breaking and entering,according to the incident report. He was then held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
