VA Man Wanted For Carjacking, Assault Arrested In Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg police arrested a man wanted on multiple assault charges out of Pittsylvania County, authorities say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A traffic stop initiated by a Fredericksburg police officer on Sunday over an expired state inspection tag led to the arrest of a suspect wanted out of Pittsylvania County on multiple assault charges, according to authorities.

The officer conducting the traffic stop recognized a passenger in the vehicle as 34-year-old Casey James Carrington of Fredericksburg, whom the officer knew was wanted by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office, according to the incident report.

After Carrington was detained, two officers searched the vehicle and recovered a baggie containing a white powdery substance, according to police. Through their investigation, police also located a vehicle, which Carrington was suspected of stealing from Pittsylvania County.

Carrington was then held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, facing the following charges from Pittsylvania County:

  • Simple assault, against family member
  • Assault, strangulation resulting in wounding or bodily injury
  • Accessory before: larceny/carjacking
  • Larceny: auto theft/ grand larceny

Additional charges from Fredericksburg police are pending the results of lab work, according to police.

On Wednesday morning, Carrington was arraigned in Pittsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on the felony carjacking, strangulation, and assault on a family member charges, according to court records. He has a bond hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2026 and a preliminary hearing set for 9 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2026.

If Carrington is convicted on the strangulation charge, which is a Class 6 felony, he faces a possible sentence of one to five years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Carrington was arraigned in Pittsylvania General District Court on Thursday morning on the grand larceny charge, according to court records. As of Friday afternoon, a preliminary hearing hasn't been scheduled for this charge.
