
National Kids to Parks Day celebrations are being held Saturday in all 35 Virginia State Parks, including those closest to Fredericksburg -- Lake Anna State Park and Westmoreland State Park.
10 - 11 a.m. Fishing 101 $2/person $6/family Learn the basics of fishing and put it to the test! *Limited Space; Register at the Visitor Center*

1 - 2 p.m. Orienteering 101 Join a ranger and discover how to orienteer with compass and map.
3 - 4 p.m. Gold Panning Join Matt for a fun filled program featuring the history and basics of "Panning for Gold just like the prospectors."

11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Become a Naturalist- Learn to identify native animals by fur, tracks, and scat and how native plants can help the environment. Take a track cast home. $3/ person. Meet at the Discovery Center.
1:30 - 3 p.m. Fossil Hike- Hike to fossil beach and learn about Westmoreland's ancient history, fossils and how to find them. Sieves provided. $3 per person or $8 per family. Meet at the Discovery Center.
4 - 5 p.m. Shark Tooth Necklace Making -Take home a unique memento from your trip to Westmoreland, a wearable work of art! Beading supplies provided. $5-buy a tooth or $3-bring a tooth. Meet at the Visitor Center.
6 - 7 p.m. Welcome Campfire Program- Snack on S'mores and take a hands-on look at the park's animals, wildlife and history. Bring a roasting stick if you have one. This program is free. Meet at the Amphitheater behind the Discovery Center.
8 - 9 p.m. Star Gazers-Experience a guided tour of the stars. Identify constellations and planets. Explore the night sky through our own natural planetarium. Hear some folklore of the sky. Telescopes are welcome. Meet behind the Visitor Center.
