Celebrate Summer, Prepare for School

Five things to know Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in and around Fredericksburg.

1 - Les Miserables opens today at Riverside Center, 95 Riverside Pkwy., Fredericksburg.  Complete details are on the website.

2 - Southpoint Cinemas, 5800 Southpoint Blvd. in Fredericksburg, presents free summer movies at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  This week's film choices are "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" and "Thunderstruck".

3 - Take the Fredericksburg Art's Commission 15 question online survey.

4 - Friday to Sunday, Aug. 2 - 4, is Virginia’s August Sales Tax Holiday on School Supplies and Clothing. During this three-day period, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax.  Some retailers are offering tax breaks on additional items, as well.  See the Virginia Department of Taxation’s website for more information.

5 - James Monroe High School National Honor Society candidates are reminded Friday, August 9, is the deadline for return of the completed Leadership Activities form. Directions are in the packets mailed in early July.  Questions can be directed to Mrs. Linda Robinson at Lsrser@cox.net.
