Perseids in the Sky, The Orion on William Street

1 - Welcome August and the annual Perseids meteor shower, one of the best of the year. Look for the peak in the early morning hours of August 11, 12 and 13.

2 - Fredericksburg native Ryan Bullock will officially open The Orion Sushi Bar and Ultra Lounge August 3, according to the restaurant's website.  The restaurant is located at 318 William St. 

3 - The Fredericksburg City School Board meets Monday, August 5, in the Lecture Hall at James Monroe High School, 2300 Washington Ave.  The work session begins at 4:30 p.m., the closed session at 6:30 p.m. and the regular session at 7:30 p.m.

4 - The Fredericksburg region had a 5.7 percent jobless rate in June, according to Virginia Employment Commission data released this week.  That's down from 5.8 percent a year ago.
