Foo Fighters to Play Crowdfunded Concert in Richmond Sept. 17
Foo Fighters announced via Twitter Wednesday the band will play its first Richmond show in 16 years at The National Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Foo Fighters revealed on Twitter today the band will perform a crowdfunded concert at The National in Richmond Sept. 17.
Foo Fighters fans Andrew Goldin, Brig White, John McAdorey and Lucas Krost launched an effort earlier this year in hopes of raising $70,000 to bring the band to Richmond. Foo Fighters last played in Richmond May 17, 1998, according to the campaign’s website.
Attendance is limited to those who the 1,400 fans who purchased tickets through the initial crowdfunding campaign, though local businesses Brown’s Volkswagen and Sugar Shack Donuts will be giving away 100 tickets each after both donated $5,000 to the venture.

“I’m telling you, it could become the way that bands decide where they want to play,” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told a South African radio station in July. “It’s a fun thing; it sort of changes the game. For the past 20 years we always decided who we’re going to play with and where we’re going to play. But now, if we hear that people want us to come somewhere, maybe we’ll come there.”
