Hurricane Season Begins June 1
The start of hurricane season is a good time to prepare, FEMA said.

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June to November, with the peak season from mid-August to late October, according to the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).
The Fredericksburg region sees its share of hurricane related weather. In August 2011 we prepared for and lived through the impact of Hurricane Irene.
In October 2012 the City of Fredericksburg urged residents to prepare in advance of Hurricane Sandy as that storm brought heavy rain and flooding on its way north.

As the saying goes, forewarned is forearmed. Hurricanes can produce winds exceeding 155 miles-per-hour as well as tornadoes, microbursts, storm surges, heavy rainfall, floods and flying debris. With hurricane season 2013 upon us, its time once again to prepare.
To begin, you should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan, FEMA advises.
