From the July E-News
There are exciting things brewing at the James Monroe Museum. The new costume display has been completed in the "Making of a Revolutionary" gallery, and is a certified hit with visitors! The exhibit currently features James Monroe's court suit, Monroe's satin vest, Mrs. Monroe's court gown, and a reproduction pink polonaise gown, which was part of her wedding trousseau. The display area was constructed with UV resistant glass and lighting timers, and provides us with the ability to safely display and rotate our beautiful costume collection to the public for years to come.

In addition to the costume display, new additions to the galleries include James Monroe's telescope, which family lore tells us was used during the War of 1812, in the "Monroes in Washington" gallery; Monroe's dueling pistols in the pianoforte gallery; and his "gentleman's small sword" in the "Making of a Revolutionary" gallery. We hope that you will come down and check out our new displays - we look forward to seeing you!
