New Indoor Waterpark Slated For 2026 Opening In Virginia
Kalahari Resorts recently broke ground on a massive new $900 million indoor waterpark, the company's fifth U.S. location.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — Kalahari Resorts recently broke ground on a massive new indoor waterpark located off Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County, according to a company news release.
The 1.38 million-square-foot resort will be Kalahari's fifth in the United States. The resort, slated for completion in 2026, will feature 907 rooms, an indoor waterpark, dedicated children's areas, a massive wave pool and surfing simulator, ten acres of seasonal outdoor pools, and a 90,0000-square-foot adventure park, the release stated.
Spotsylvania County board supervisor Kevin Marshall told a Wisconsin news outlet the resort is a $900 million investment.

The company broke ground on the project on Oct. 20.
"Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is a welcome addition to Virginia's ever-growing travel and
tourism industry," Virginia Secretary of Commerce Caren Merrick said in a statement. "The opening of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions will attract more visitors and businesses to Virginia, which will generate hospitality jobs and create a significant economic impact for the region."

Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is privately owned and operated by the Nelson family, according to the company. It currently has resorts in Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The Virginia resort will be located off Interstate 95 near Dominion Raceway & Entertainment, about 45 minutes from Richmond and an hour from Washington, D.C. It's slated to open in 2026.
The resort is expected to provide more than 1,400 full- and part-time entry- to executive-level jobs, the company said.
In addition to the waterpark, games and other attractions, the resort will house 12 food and drink spots, retail shops and meeting spaces.
