Northern Virginia Weather: Cold Temperatures Lurk
Northern Virginia's weather for the week ahead is expected to begin damp and then make a sudden turn toward much colder temperatures.

STERLING, VA—Once a rather soggy Monday is out of the way, Northern Virginia's weather forecast for the week ahead offers plenty of sunshine but also features a return of chilly temperatures. That's the word from the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.
Monday's highs should be in the mid 50s, and as is pointed out by the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "Skies clear out during the evening into the overnight as colder air starts to funnel in, (and) we’ll see lows drop to right around freezing. At least the mild temperatures were fun while they lasted."
Highs for the rest of the week are expected to hover in the low 40s to upper 30s, with lows a bit below freezing. So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service's local bureau in Sterling:

Sunday Night: A chance of rain after 4am. Patchy fog between 1am and 4am. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 44. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Monday: Rain, mainly before 1pm, then a chance of showers after 4pm. Patchy fog after 4pm. High near 53. South wind around 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
