Lock Your Vehicle, Thwart a Vandal

In a perfect world, we could leave our vehicles unlocked and our belongings unsecured without anyone taking advantage of us. 

But criminals, police say, often simply go car-to-car trying door handles and looking for evidence of valuables. 

That's why they recommend we always lock our vehicles, secure valuables out of sight and hide all evidence of electronic devices.  This includes putting charging cords in the glove box and cleaning device holder marks from our windows.  These simple steps help deter crime, police report.


LARCENY:
3200 block Normandy Ave, 9/11 - 9/12 10:30 a.m. A visitor reported that an unknown person stole her unsecured vehicle from the driveway. The keys had been left inside the car. The vehicle was later located on Ivanhoe Court, but the keys and an iPad were missing from it. The investigation is ongoing.

200 block Ferdinand St, 9/12 8:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. A city resident reported that an unknown person broke a window on her vehicle and stole her cell phone from inside. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

500 block Hanson Ave, 9/11 – 9/12 8:00 a.m. Two neighbors reported that an unknown person entered their unlocked vehicles and stole loose change, a GPS, and other items of value from inside. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

VANDALISM:
Mary Washington Hospital, 1001 Sam Perry Blvd, 9/8 – 9/11 11:45 a.m. A visitor reported that her vehicle was scratched and damaged on two separate occasions while it was parked at the hospital. No suspects or witnesses at this time.
