Pilot Killed In Virginia Air Show Crash

The plane crashed during an aerobatic act at the air show.

CULPEPER, VA — A pilot was killed following a small plane crash at a Virginia air show Friday night, officials said.

The plane crashed in a field near Culpeper Regional Airport around 8:10 p.m., killing the pilot on the scene.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that an RVA Homebuilt aircraft was conducting aerodynamic maneuvers when it crashed into the ground," police said in a statement.

The pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane, was identified as Jon S. Thocker, of Cincinnati.

In a statement, the Culpeper Air Fest said the accident happened during an "aerobatic act." Organizers said the educational portion of the air fest would continue on Saturday as planned.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved and we will update you as soon as we have further information," the air show said in the statement.

The FAA and NTSB responded to the scene. No injuries were reported on the ground.
