Rappahannock Area Health District Receives Grants to Benefit Women's Health
The health district recently received a total of $43,950 from the Mary Washington Hospital Community Benefit Fund.

The Rappahannock Area Health District (RAHD) has been awarded a $23,950 grant from the Mary Washington Hospital Community Benefit Fund for the purchase of a portable ultrasound machine.
The portable ultrasound will enable the health district to perform certain gynecological and prenatal procedures at its offices, instead of requiring patients to have a procedure done elsewhere.
RAHD also recently received a $20,000 grant from the Mary Washington Hospital Community Benefit Fund for its Every Woman’s Life (EWL) program, which provides essential breast and cervical cancer screenings to women who otherwise could not afford them. "Screening and early detection reduces death rates, improves treatment options and greatly increases survival," a program spokesperson said.
At some sites where EWL services are offered, women can also be screened for high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, and also learn how to become more physically active, eat healthier foods and stop smoking.
To find your nearest screening location, call EWL’s toll free referral line at 1-866-EWL-4YOU (1-866-395-4968) or 804-864-8204.
The Rappahannock Area Health District provides medical, dental, environmental, and public health services to the citizens of the City of Fredericksburg and Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
