'Spavia Cares' Initiative Supports First-Time Cancer Patients In FXBG

Spavia Central Park and Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg team up to provide self-care gifts to first-time cancer patients.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Throughout September, Spavia Central Park will be partnering with a local hematology and oncology practice to support first-time cancer patients. The effort is part of the company's annual “Spavia Cares” campaign to promote National Self-Care Awareness Month.

Nivin Elgohary, the owner of Spavia Central Park, is partnering with the Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg whose mission is to “to treat, comfort, and empower those affected by cancer.”

Elgohary decided to partner with HOAF because of her experience as a patient at the center while she was battling breast cancer. Also influencing the decision was that her mother began cancer treatments at HOAF six months after Elgohary was diagnosed.

“As a cancer survivor, I like to label myself as a ‘thriver’ – I have overcome this hardship and transitioned from journeying through life to prospering in this journey of life. I understand the hardships that are associated with a cancer diagnosis," Elgohary said.

Throughout September, guests at Spavia Central Park can select a self-care item that will then be matched by Elgohary and gifted to HOAF patients who are receiving their first cancer treatment.

“I hope these tiny self-care gifts can help bring some positivity and support to the patients at my favorite group of hematology oncologists," she said. "The team at HOAF helped me and my mom tremendously throughout our cancer journey, so I wanted to aid in their mission and humbly provide their patients with the utmost comfort and joyful encouragement during their treatments.”

The Spavia Cares initiative is a way for the company and its 59 locations across the U.S. to address the needs of local communities through a variety of activities, including fundraisers, volunteer efforts and event hosting.

"Spavia Cares embodies our commitment to the communities we serve," said Allison Langenderfer, Spavia's co-founder and president. "We are proud to support our franchisees and their local charity partners as they work together to promote wellness and make a difference. Our mission has always been to make a positive difference in the world, one guest at a time, and through Spavia Cares, we extend that mission beyond our spa doors and into the communities that support us. We encourage everyone to participate in these efforts and join us in our commitment to giving back."
