$1M Winning Powerball Ticket Sold In VA, Jackpot Resets To $20M

A single ticket sold in Arkansas matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing to win the $1.817 billion jackpot. But a VA player won $1M.

One lucky lottery player in Virginia won $1 million after matching five of six numbers in the Powerball drawing on Christmas Eve.

The winning numbers in the Wednesday, Dec. 24 Powerball drawing were white balls 4, 25, 31, 52 and 59. The red Powerball was 19, and the Power Play multiplier was 2.

A single ticket sold in Arkansas matched all six numbers drawn to win a $1.817 billion jackpot. The jackpot had a cash option of $834.9 million, according to Powerball's website, and was the second-largest ever won.

In Wednesday’s drawing alone, more than 166,000 Virginia Powerball tickets won prizes, including one ticket that won $1 million, one ticket that won $100,000 and two tickets that each won $50,000.

According to Virginia lottery officials, the $1 million ticket was purchased online.

Meanwhile, the $100,000 winning ticket was bought at Wawa, located at 9235 Courthouse Rd. in Spotsylvania. The two $50,000 winning tickets were bought at 7-Eleven, 2105 Salem Rd. in Virginia Beach, and Chill Stop, 3200 Western Branch Blvd. in Chesapeake.

Nationwide, eight tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million. In addition to Virginia, the winning Match 5 tickets were sold in California, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The drawing also produced 114 tickets that won $50,000 prizes and 31 tickets that won $100,000 prizes, according to Powerball's website.

Following Wednesday's drawing, the jackpot reset to $20 million.

Powerball tickets, which cost $2, are available in Virginia at gas stations, convenience stores, and grocery stores. Tickets can also be purchased online. The deadline to buy tickets for Saturday's drawing is 10 p.m.

The last time a Virginia player won the Powerball jackpot was on March 4, 2023, when a $162.6 million ticket was claimed.

Virginia has had two jackpot winners since 2003. Together, they claimed jackpots totalling $379.8 million.
