Restaurant Week, Free Movies, Candidate Debate

Featured events for the week of August 5 - 9, 2013.

ALL WEEK
Eleven downtown Fredericksburg restaurants are participating in the 2013 Family Table Restaurant Week, which features produce from local farms.  The third annual summer event is scheduled August 3 - 11.  Participating restaurants will feature special kid’s meals nightly from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and a ‘two-for-twenty’ adult menu where diners can select two courses for only $20.

MONDAY
The Fredericksburg City School Board meets Monday, August 5, in the Lecture Hall at James Monroe High School, 2300 Washington Ave.  The work session begins at 4:30 p.m., the closed session at 6:30 p.m. and the regular session at 7:30 p.m.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters Branch presents Music on the Steps from 7 - 8 p.m.  This week's featured artists are Jeni & Billy.

TUESDAY
Southpoint Cinemas, 5800 Southpoint Blvd. in Fredericksburg, presents free summer movies at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  This week's film choices are "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" and "Big Miracle".

WEDNESDAY
Spotsylvania County Government is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Public Safety Building at 9119 Dean Ridings Lane in Spotsylvania. Presenting donors will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of tickets to the Washington vs. Buffalo football game, including VIP parking, courtesy of the American Red Cross.

The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center is hosting a junior ranger walk about flags and signals at 11 a.m.  The free activities last about one hour and are recommended for kids ages 6 - 12. The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center is located at 1013 Lafayette Blvd.

Fredericksburg's newest sister city is Schwetzingen, Germany.  Join the  monthly gathering at 7 p.m., Capital Ale House, with this month's special guests --  visiting exchange students for the first ever Schwetzingen Fredericksburg Youth Exchange.

FRIDAY
Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli will face off in the “Battleground Forum” at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas.  The debate is cosponsored by the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Registration and networking will begin at 9 a.m.  The forum begins at 10 a.m.

James Monroe High School National Honor Society candidates are reminded Friday, August 9, is the deadline for return of the completed Leadership Activities form. Directions are in the packets mailed in early July.  Questions can be directed to Mrs. Linda Robinson at Lsrser@cox.net.
