Tornado Watch In Effect for Fredericksburg Area

Heavy rain and severe storms are expected to pass through the region throughout the day Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Fredericksburg area, including the cities of Fredericksburg, Orange and Culpeper and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, Orange, King George and Culpeper.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected, mainly before 5 p.m., as a strong cold front pushes into the area, the NWS said. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent, with new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect for the upper tidal Potomac River.

Monday's high is expected near 76.  West wind at 9 to 18 miles-per-hour could gust as high as 29 miles-per-hour.

The chance of showers diminishes to 70 percent, mainly until 7 p.m.  Then it is expected to gradually become partly cloudy, with a low around 50.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 70.
