Alexandria Residents Remain Displaced after October Condo Collapse
Residents from an Alexandria condo remain displaced after an October collapse forced them out.

ALEXANDRIA, VA - After an October 2016 partial building collapse displaced residents in Alexandria's River Towers Condominium, they are awaiting answers on when they can move back in.
The section of the eight-story building collapsed due to years of water damage. Structural engineers are still trying to investigate the full reach of damages and why the incident occurred. The condo association does not know yet if insurance will cover the loss until an official report comes out. Because the building is privately owned, Fairfax County has limited authority until building owners and insurance companies are ready for an inspection.
Now almost six months since the incident, residents have turned to temporary housing while paying for the condo and are experiencing financial hardships.

“I’m still paying my mortgage and condo fee for a place I can’t live,” resident Margaret Crowley told WTOP.
