Fairfax County Budget Town Halls In Route 1 Corridor Planned
After the Fairfax County budget was proposed, residents can learn more and share feedback at upcoming budget town halls.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Residents around the Richmond Highway corridor can learn about the proposed Fairfax County budget and share feedback at upcoming budget town halls.
County Executive Bryan Hill presented the budget proposal for fiscal year 2024 on Tuesday. The budget calls for keeping the real estate tax rate at $1.11 per $100 of assessed value. However, homeowners could still see tax bills rise as assessment values increased by an average 6.97 percent.

Residential assessment values increased by an average 7.57 percent in the Mount Vernon District and 6.97 percent in the Franconia District. The Franconia District covers parts of the west side of Richmond Highway, and the Mount Vernon District covering the remainder of the corridor.

For Fairfax County Public Schools, Hill proposed an $144.1 million increase to the county transfer to the school district. That was 7 percent less than the $159 million requested by Superintendent Michelle Reid.
Franconia residents will have the chance to learn about the Fairfax County budget proposal and ask questions at a virtual town hall on hosted by Supervisor Rodney Lusk Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be on Fairfax County Channel 16 (Cox 1016, Verizon/Comcast 16) and Lusk's Facebook Live. The Mount Vernon budget town hall will be held Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria, VA. Supervisor Dan Storck will host the meeting on the county and school budget with School Board Member Karen Corbett Sanders and Mount Vernon Council of Citizen's Associations and the South County Federation.

On March 7, the Board of Supervisors will set the advertised tax rate, the highest real estate tax rate it will consider. Public hearings on the budget will be held April 11 to 13. Budget markup is scheduled for May 2, and a final decision on the tax rate and budget will be on May 9. The final FCPS budget will be adopted by the School Board on May 25.
