Greater Alexandria Home Among Top DC Sales In Last Decade

Can you guess which Greater Alexandria home is among the most expensive sold in the DC area over the last decade?

FORT HUNT, VA—One of the biggest DC area real estate sales of the decade hails from the land of George Washington.

Real estate pioneer Gerald Halpin's estate in Fort Hunt goes down as the eighth most expensive sold at $18.6 million. The 16.5 waterfront property was originally part of our first president's estate, according to the Washington Business Journal. It features a main house built in 1914, a guest house and serene river views.

Halpin sold his River View Estate at 7979 East Boulevard Drive back in 2014 before moving to Wyoming. The buyer was Chevy Chase Trust Co. Halpin, who helped lead the way for major real estate development in Tysons, died in August.

Another McLean home currently on the market could take the top stop if it sells—and it happens to be the neighbor of the Wind Falls estate. In June, AOL co-founder and former CEO Steve Case announced he was selling Merrywood, the childhood home of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The huge estate that has hosted presidents, business leaders, artists and more and is listed at $49.5 million.
