Storck Defeats Zermeno In Mount Vernon District Supervisor Primary: Unofficial Results
Dan Storck is the projected winner over Maritza Zermeno in the primary election for Mount Vernon District supervisor.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Supervisor Dan Storck is the projected winner over Maritza Zermeno in the primary election for Mount Vernon District supervisor, the Washington Post called based on unofficial results from 90 percent of precincts.
Two-term Supervisor Storck is running for re-election and faced Democratic primary challenger Zermeno. Early voting returns and 29 of 31 precincts reporting show Storck leading Zermeno with 68.57 percent of the vote.
The winner of the Democratic primary will go on to the Nov. 7, 2023 election. Results are unofficial until certified by local registrars and the state.

Other Democratic primaries in Fairfax County include Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney and sheriff, Board of Supervisors chairman, the Dranesville, Mason and Springfield Board of Supervisors districts, and select Virginia House and Senate districts. No Republican primary elections are being held in Fairfax County.

Storck was first elected as Mount Vernon District supervisor in 2015. Before becoming supervisor, Storck was the Mount Vernon District representative on the Fairfax County School Board from 2004 to 2015. On the board, he is the Environmental Committee chairman, Audit Committee chairman, Economic Advisory Commission vice-chairman, Economic Initiatives Committee vice-chairman.
Campaign priorities identified in his candidate profile are investing in education, housing, the environment, public safety and economic development, including revitalization of the Richmond Highway corridor and Lorton.
Zermeno is a grassroots leader involved with the Virginia Democratic Party and part of Rep. Don Beyer’s Local Advisory Cabinet, a founding member of the Fairfax Latino Caucus, and former chair of the Mount Vernon District Democratic Committee. Priorities identified on her campaign website are improving transportation, health care resources to address the fentanyl and opioid crisis, rebuilding the Eleanor U. Kennedy Shelter, and improving education for all students.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Fairfax County Office of Elections reported an estimated 9 percent turnout, with 4.6 percent from early voting and 4.4 percent from polling places.
