The following is a letter to constituents from Supervisor Storck, republished from his letter emailed Wednesday.
Dear Neighbors,
Happy 2017 to the fine residents of the Mount Vernon magisterial district. First and foremost, I would like to acknowledge some of our 2016 accomplishments to include:

- Building a responsive Mount Vernon District Team with new communication tools and increased outreach
- Initiating a Legislative Roundtable with District elected representatives
- Initiating District County Boards, Authorities and Commissions appointees' Guidance and Expectations and an annual meeting
- Approving FY 2017 Balanced Budget, fully funding schools
- Increasing Police communications, transparency and civilian oversight
- Initiating spot improvements for district roads and trails
- Actively engaged thousands of residents with responses within two business days
- Hosting nearly a dozen Mount Vernon District events, most of them new
Some projects to highlight for 2016 include the Re-Opening of the Original Mount Vernon High School (OMVHS) Teen Gymnasium, the Lorton VRE Park-and-Ride Expansion Project, and continued progress on the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Embark projects. Mount Vernon's wonderful parks and historical sites, diversity and culture make it an ideal community to live, play, work and thrive. A personal highlight was the inaugural Tour de' Mount Vernon ride. Thanks to everyone who joined me on December 31st for a 50 mileround-trip bike ride along the GWP trail to Mount Vernon Estate and ultimately ending at the Workhouse Arts Center.
Looking ahead to our 2017 Goals, we are working hard to make sure that we accomplish:

- Increasing Connections between you, your community and your local government
- Balancing a low-growth FY2018 Budget
- Public Safety changes implemented and hiring new police officers
- Land Use improvements continuing with major housing, highways and trail projects
- Increasing Health, Human and other County Services availability at area government centers in the district
- An environment that is more protected with less airplane noise
- Hospitality & Tourism initiatives increasing awareness of our scenic beauty, history & livability
