• Clarksville man arrested on gun-related counts (sovanow.com) — A Clarksville resident is facing felony and misdemeanor gun-related charges in Halifax County after allegedly giving false information on a firearms purchase form at a South Boston pawn shop while under a protective order. He was processed at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Halifax County General District Court on Jan. 20.

• Report points to lethargic area labor market (sovanow.com) — Halifax County’s unemployment rate recently dropped from 5.6 to 4.7 percent, but the local labor force also shrank by nearly 100 workers, suggesting a softer job market. The report compares Halifax with neighboring Southside counties and notes similar patterns of falling unemployment driven more by fewer workers than by strong job growth.
