• Person killed in Mechanicsville wreck, deputies say (wtvr.com) — A person was killed early Saturday in a crash on the 7200 block of Brooking Way in Mechanicsville, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies are still investigating what led to the wreck, and no further details have been released yet. Residents in Hanover County may notice an ongoing law enforcement presence in that area as the case develops. 
• 18-year-old in critical condition after Mechanicsville shooting (nbc12.com) — An 18-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot during a confrontation between two groups late Saturday night on Bell Creek Road in Mechanicsville, Hanover County. Deputies say multiple guns were displayed inside a business before the dispute spilled into the parking lot, where shots were fired and the suspects fled. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
• Drunk raccoon in liquor store is repeat offender (boingboing.net) — A mischievous raccoon that broke into a liquor store has unexpectedly brought more than $200,000 in donations to Hanover County Animal Control, thanks to viral attention and memes. The animal, a repeat offender in the same building complex, was rescued and released after being found drunk and passed out, and now serves as a lighthearted reminder of how shared humor can benefit local services.
