Washington Capital Re-Sign Herndon's Joe Snively To 2-Year, $1.6M Contract

HERNDON, VA — Joe Snively, who grew up and played youth hockey in Herndon, was just re-signed by the Washington Capitals to a two-year, $1.6 million contract.

Brian MacLellan, the Caps' senior vice president and general manager, made the announcement on Wednesday, according to NHL. com. The new contract for the team's rookie forward will have an average annual value of $800,000.

Snively made his National Hockey League debut in the Caps' loss to Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 20, 2021. The 26-year old, who'd been called up the day before from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, was credited with scoring his first NHL point by providing the primary assist on Connor McMichael's first period goal. He went on to score seven points on four goals and 3 assists in his 12 games with the Capitals during the 2020-21 season, NHL.com reported.

As a young athlete, Snively took part in Washington's Little Caps program and trained at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington. He is also the franchise's first Virginia native and only the third player from Virginia to score a point in the NHL, according to NHL.com
