2023 Herndon Haunted Houses: Patch Halloween Decoration Gallery

HERNDON, VA — As the days get colder and the nights grow longer, Halloween inches closer. Not only is the holiday a night for trick-or-treaters to score some sweet candy, it also gives the scary set in Reston the chance to decorate their homes with ghosts, ghouls, witches, skeletons, and jack o' lanterns.

If you're the kind of person who goes all out for Halloween displays, we want to see it. Patch is putting together its annual guide to Halloween home displays worth visiting.

Mark Milbrath invites visitors to check out his Witch’s Hallow on All Pumpkins’ Eve display — if you dare — at 11224 Handlebar Road in Reston. Visitors can park in the cul de sac.

Milbrath told Patch that while the yard is currently decorated, Headless Jack will only be live with sound on Halloween night.

"Full of haunts and the Seed Reader from the award-winning book series, latest release is 'All Pumpkins’ Eve,' might make an appearance or gather more spooky tales to tell," Milbrath said.

Over in Herndon, Mary Mireles has been entertaining neighbors and trick or treaters with homemade Halloween decorations.

This year, the mother of a percussion student at South Lakes High School is trying to drum up support for the school's band with a spooky Harry Potter-themed Halloween display outside her Herndon home.

“I was wanting to do something different this year — Something you don’t see in the stores or even online," Mirales said, in an email to Patch. "I’ve had this idea for a 'Scary” Potter theme for a while but knee and back surgeries prevented me from attempting. When I learned my son’s band needed new uniforms, I knew I had to do the 'Harry Potter' theme. It combines all my passions — Halloween, Harry Potter and South Lakes Band.”
