The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics are coming up Sept. 7-19 in Arlington. Adults 50 and older from all over the D.C. Metro area are invited to participate in a wide variety of sports such as track and field, tennis, swimming, bowling, table hockey, cycling, basketball and much more. The registration fee is $12, and the deadline is Aug. 23 by mail or Aug. 30 online. For more information or to register, visit www.nvso.us.

The Herndon Community Center’s state-licensed preschool is currently registering children for the 2013-14 school year, and spots are still available. The class for 3- and 4-year-olds is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and the class for 4- and 5-year-olds is held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be potty-trained. The school year runs from September 2013 to June 2014. For more information on tuition costs and registration, visit the Town’s website. Priority is given to Town residents, but all are welcome.
Looking for a way to get your kid interested in science, as well as entertain? Tickets are still available for this Friday’s 10:30 a.m. show of Doktor Kaboom! at Wolf Trap’s Children’s Theater-in-the-Woods, nearby at 1551 Trap Road in Vienna. Called “a creative science wiz that proves science is a blast with his explosively hilarious interactive show,” Doktor Kaboom explores the scientific process through “super-charged” experiments.
