Christmas, Hanukkah Events In Herndon: Music, Tree Lightings, Gifts

Enjoy a wide array of seasonal activities in Herndon that will boost your holiday spirits.

HERNDON, VA — There are plenty of things going on around Herndon to celebrate the 2023 winter holidays.

Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, starts at sundown on Dec. 7, and ends at nightfall on Dec. 15. Christmas, of course, is on Dec. 25, but you don’t have to wait to start taking in all the sights and sounds of the season.

The Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation in Restonn celebrates the Festival of Lights with a Shabbat Chanukah service. Participants are encouraged to bring their chanukkiah and lots of candles. NVHC is located at 1441 Wiehle Ave.

Herndon's Holiday Tree Lighting & Sing-Along takes place Saturday, Dec. 2, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Town Hall Square, which is located at 730 Elden St. Sing carols, watch the tree lighting and visit with Santa. Free.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, the Herndon Holiday Arts & Crafts Show returns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Herndon Community Center, located at 814 Ferndale Ave. Free admission and parking available. Purchase unique gifts from more than 70 arts and craft vendors.

  • Holiday Model Train Show takes place Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at as part of the Herndon Caboose Open House. Free. For more information contact the Herndon Historical Society.
  • Herndon Homes Tour: Tour Herndon homes decorated for the holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2. Purchase tickets online through Dec. 2 or in person at Arts Herndon, located at 750 Center St. or at Herndon Florist, 1675 Reston Parkway, Suite G in Reston.
  • Holiday Storytime: Wednesday, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Arts Herndon, located at 750 Center St. Enjoy holiday stories and music for little people.
  • Charity Cookie Swap: Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. Bring your favorite cookbooks and cookies to Arts Herndon, located at 750 Center St., to celebrate the holidays.
  • Herndon WinterMarkt: Enjoy an Old World Christmas with this family-focused event on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 12 p.m.-7 p.m., at 777 Lynn St. in downtown Herndon. There will be holiday entertainment, food, gifts, items for sale, and a visit from St. Nick. Free.
  • Appalachian Bluegrass Christmas: Sunday, Dec. 10, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., at Arts Herndon, located at 750 Center St. Music and readings with Shoestring Theatre.
  • Christmas with the Trouble Clefs: Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., at Arts Herndon, 750 Center St. Share in the sing-along to get in the holiday mood.
  • Wreaths Across America: The Herndon Womans Club is hosting a volunteer wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 12 p.m., at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 831 Dranesville Road.
  • Winter Wonderland of Glass: Come have fun and make unique holiday gifts on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m., at Arts Herndon, 750 Center St.
  • Winter Solstice with Arts Herndon: Celebrate the winter solstice with music provided by Distend, Ripley Void and more on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m., at Arts Herndon, 750 Center St.
  • New Year's Eve Golf Tournament: Annual four-person scramble on Dec. 31, begins with a shotgun start at 10.m. Entry fee includes green fee, cart fee, range balls and prizes. Entry deadline is Dec. 26. Herndon Centennial Golf Course, 909 Ferndale Ave.
