Cooksey’s Win Highlights Hornets’ Weekend at Titan Wrestling Invitational

From Herndon High School: Senior Cole Cooksey’s first place finish at 220lbs. highlighted Herndon’s appearance at the 10th Titan Invitational at Cosby High School over the weekend. Three Hornets advanced to Saturday’s semifinals and two advanced all the way through the consolation bracket to bring home medals. Herndon recorded six total podium finishes including Caleb Clayborne in second (106), Mike Larosa (106), K.T. Elston (113), and Trey Passmore (160) in third, and Chris Estrada (HWT) in fifth.

Cooksey, 8-2 on the season, pinned his way through the championship bracket and put in a dominating 6-2 decision in the finals to secure the overall victory. Clayborne reeled off three straight victories to reach the 106lbs. finals. Larosa, Elston, and Passmore recovered from early losses to capture third place. Passmore was able to avenge a first round lost in the consolation finals to take the bronze medal, while Estrada won three of five matches on the day to take fifth.

As a team, the Hornets finished seventh overall, while Mills Godwin, Cosby, and Norview went 1-2-3 atop the leaderboard.

Herndon returns to action this weekend heading over to the Cavalier Classic at Woodson High School on Saturday, Dec. 17.
