HERNDON, VA — An electrical fire caused $50,000 in damage to a house in Herndon earlier this week.

Firefighters responded to the 600 block of Pemberton Court at around 5 p.m. on July 30, and found a two-story, single-family home with heavy fire showing from a rear enclosed deck, according to a report from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The fire extended into the attic, but crews quickly put it out with no injuries reported.

Two people were at home at the time of the fire, which was discovered by the homeowner and called in by the owner's son. They both were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived, the report states.

Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and started in a ceiling fan in the enclosed screen porch -- specifically, an "electrical event" in the junction box of the fan likely caused the fire.
