Floor Cleaning Machine Sparks Fire at Dranesville Elementary
Officials say an electrical anomaly in a floor cleaning machine started a fire at Dranesville Elementary School in Herndon Thursday evening.
A malfunctioning floor cleaning machine sparked a fire at Dranesville Elementary in Herndon Thursday evening, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to reports of a fire at the school, located at 1515 Powells Tavern Place, around 5:05 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters discovered the fire in a kitchen storage room after seeing smoke coming from the loading dock and hallway area.
Emergency sprinklers helped contain the fire to the storage room, according to officials. All students and staff were evacuated before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.
