Herndon Announces 2016-2017 Wrestling Schedule
Additionally, the Hornets will host Senior Night on Jan. 25, 2017.

From Herndon Athletics:
Tournaments in Maryland, Richmond, and Virginia Beach as well as a “Beauty and The Beast” gymnastics/wrestling event at Robinson Secondary School highlight the 2016-17 Herndon wrestling schedule, head coach Mike Gonzales announced this week. Herndon opens the season at the Ray Oliver Wrestling Tournament at the McDonogh School in Owings Mill, MD on Dec. 2. The Hornets will host Senior Night on Jan. 25.
"I think this is a great schedule that will really challenge our guys," Gonzales said. "We're going to have to grind through January to be in a position to compete for championships in the postseason. It's exciting to have some new tournaments on the schedule like The Battle at the Bridge, Titan Invitational and King of Beasts in VA Beach, to go with what should be the most competitive Conference 5 duals in many years. I look forward to seeing how our guys rise to the challenge."

Following the road trip to McDonogh, Herndon will head south to Cosby HS in Richmond to compete in the Titan Invitational on Dec. 10. To kick off the winter break. Herndon will traveling to W.T. Woodson for the Cavalier Classic on Dec. 17. They will stay busy over the break, as the Hornets will head to Woodbridge on Dec. 27-28 for The Battle of the Bridge before starting their dual meet portion of the season. Their Conference 5 opener is against defending conference champion Robinson, conference foe Oakton and will take place Jan. 11 in a “Beauty of the Beast” event. For this event, the wrestling and gymnastics teams will partner up to showcase both competitions at the same time.
“We’re excited about this event. Both the wrestling and gymnastics teams get to showcase their programs in front of bigger crowds, and it will make for a fun environment for fans and participants alike,” Gonzales added.
Other meets include trips to southern Maryland on Jan. 6-7 for the Patriot Classic at Northern HS and visits to league foes Westfield (Jan. 14) and Centreville (Jan. 18). Herndon will host Edison, Forrest Park, and Espicopal on Jan. 25 for Senior Night, which figures to be a highlight of the late-season schedule.
The 2017 Conference 5 Championships are set for Feb. 9 at Westfield HS, followed by the 6A Northern Region Tournament at Fairfax HS on Feb. 17-18. The season will culminate with the 2017 6A State Wrestling Championships at Oscar Smith HS in Norfolk, on February 17-18.
