Deadline Looms For Herndon High Students Who Want To Play Fall Sports

HERNDON, VA — Student athletes at Herndon High School need to register and submit a completed physical exam if they wish to participate in fall sports. Tryouts begin on Monday, July 31.

Athletes can register online for cheer, cross-country, field hockey, football, golf and volleyball.

A completed physical exam dated after May 1, 2023 needs to be on file before a student can register to compete in fall sports. Students can email a completed copy of their physical exam to HHS Athletic Trainer Lisa Petruzzi.

Herndon High School Winter Sports Tryouts Schedule

• Cheer: Head Coach Hannah Moore - Tryouts will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on July 31, Aug. 1, and Aug. 2 at Herndon High School Auxiliary Gym
• Volleyball: Head Coach Jessica Tramontozzi - Tryouts will take place on July 31, Aug. 1, and Aug. 2 at Herndon High School Main Gym
• Golf: Head Coach Chris Haddock - Tryouts begin 8 a.m. on July 31, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 at Herndon Centennial Golf Course located at 909 Ferndale Ave. in Herndon. Arrive early in order to warm up prior to the 8 a.m. start time. Before each round during the tryout period, students are required to pay green's fees each day for nine holes.
• Football: Head Coach Bill Bachman - Tryouts begin at 8 a.m. on July 31, at Herndon High School Stadium Field.
• Field Hockey: Head Coach Emma Patton - Tryouts are 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., July 31 through Aug. 2, at the Herndon High School Auxiliary Turf Field. Practice will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day through Aug. 12, with afternoon practices beginning on Aug. 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Cross Country: Boys Coach Jason Polaha and Girls Coach Chris Geary - Tryouts are 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., July 31-Aug. 4, at the Herndon High School Stadium Track.

HornetFest 2023 will be Aug. 15, at 4:30 p.m. at the school, which is located 700 Bennett St. in Herndon. The event is open to all students and provides an opportunity to learn all about the school's clubs and activities.

Herndon Sports Boosters will be at HornetFest 2023, providing membership information and selling official school spirit wear.
