Herndon Theater Scores 15 Cappies Nominations For 'Kiss Me, Kate," Student Critics

HERNDON, VA — Herndon High School's production of "Kiss Me, Kate" proved to dazzle the audience — and critics too.

Herndon High School received 15 nominations for the prestigious National Capital Area Cappie Awards, which are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the DC region. Three of the nominations are for student critics who review theater performances, and 12 are for the performance of "Kiss Me, Kate."

Student critic nominations were Ellen Lawton for Andy Mays Rising Critic, Val Altmiller for Maryland Theater Guide Returning Critic and Herndon High School for Best Critic Team.

The nominations for "Kiss Me, Kate" were Best Musical, Hailey Klein and Olivia Prout in the Marketing and Publicity category, Amelie Aubouin in the Props category, Henry Collins, Jefferson Escobar-Rivera, Andrew Landrum and Charly Olsen in the Sets category, Jenna Ainge for Student Director in the Creativity category, "Kiss Me, Kate" Stage Crew in the Stage Crew category, Gangster Ensemble for Ensemble in a Musical, Ethan Hardy for Dancer in a Male Role, Andrew Landrum for Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Musical, Hope Hill for Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Musical, Josh Wise for Lead Actor in a Male Role in a Musical, and "I Hate Men" in the Song category.

"Kiss Me, Kate," a musical rendition of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," was performed at Herndon High School during the spring season.

Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
