Herndon Names Bob Williams Town's New Parks And Recreation Director
Bob Williams will manage the operations of the Town of Herndon's Parks and Recreation Department.

HERNDON, VA — Bob Williams, CPRP, was named the new director of the Town of Herndon Parks and Recreation Department. on Monday. He succeeds Cindy Roeder, who retired after serving the the town for more than 20 years.
In his new role, Williams will oversee the direction of Parks and Recreation, including staff management, program planning and development, facilities operation, and maintenance, according to a release.
“No question, Cindy Roeder’s shoes are hard to fill,” said Town Manager Bill Ashton, who Williams will report to in his new role. “We are confident that Bob has the experience, insights and expertise to maintain the department’s high quality of operations and programming while bringing new, fresh ideas that further its legacy. In particular, I look forward to new initiatives under his leadership that establish new events and traditions, build on our vibrant sense of community and celebrate the myriad cultures represented in Herndon.”

In addition to capital improvement planning, Williams will also manage operations of Chestnut Grove Cemetery and foster collaborative relationships Herndon's various sports, arts, non-profit, schools, and business operations.
Williams' prior experience includes serving as the parks and recreation director for Martinsburg-Berkeley County in West Virginia. While there, he created the first strategic and masterplan for the department, he developed improved processes to increase productivity and community engagement. Williams also held positions of increasing responsibilities in the parks and recreation departments in Alexandria, Virginia; Licking County, Ohio; and Chester County, Pennsylvania.

A Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, Williams is a graduate of Slippery Rock University, where he earned a bachelor of science in parks and recreation. He also hods a mater of science degree in nonprofit management from Robert Morris University. His first day on the job in Herndon will be Jan. 16.
