HERNDON, VA — Herndon resident Lynne Hunter was recently elected as the first female president of the Middle Atlantic Section of the Professional Golfers Association. She was elected to to be MAPGA's 51st president during the association's annual meeting, which was held virtually.

Hunter, who is the director of golf at Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, will serve a two-year term. She also served as MAPGA's vice president in 2022-23 and secretary in 2020-21.

"I am honored to serve the 1,100 Middle Atlantic PGA Members and Associates in our section,” Hunter said, in a release. “ I look forward to working with our officers, board and staff to make an impact in our communities through our foundation, PGA REACH Middle Atlantic. Many PGA members have helped me along the way in my career and I am excited to give back to the game and my fellow professionals that work to grow the game at their facilities every day."

During its annual meeting, MAPGA also elected Mark Russo of Midlothian, Virginia as its new vice president and Scott Graber of Glen Allen, Virginia, as its new secretary. With the completion of his two-year term, outgoing President Andy Weissinger of Chesapeake, Virginia was named MAPGA’s honorary president.

“The Middle Atlantic PGA is extremely proud to announce Lynne Hunter as the 51st President of our nearly 100-year-old Association,” said Jon Guhl, the association's executive director. “Lynne’s dedication to the game and her fellow PGA Professionals, as well as her business acumen and a distinguished, award-winning career, make her ideally suited to lead our Association for the next two years.”

Guhl adds, “Along with newly elected MAPGA Vice President, Mark Russo, Secretary, Scott Graber, and Honorary President, Andy Weissinger, this leadership team will continue to drive our Association forward and ensure the game and business of golf in the Mid-Atlantic Region continues to reach new heights."

Hunter is a dual member of the PGA and the LPGA, joining the former in 2007. Graduating from James Madison University with a B.S. in business administration, her first golf-related job was as an intern at TPC Avenel, in Potomac, Maryland. Becoming a golf professional in 1997, Hunter joined the staff at Kenwood Country Club where she became head professional in 2012.

Hunter's many accomplishments include being named 2021 National LPGA Professional of the Year, and LPGA Northeast Section Golf Professional of the Year in 2010, 2017, and 2022. She was also named a U.S. Kids Top 50 Junior Golf Instructor in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012; 2006 Kenwood Golf and Country Club Jack Weber Award Winner; and the Titleist Performance Institute certified golf fitness instructor status. She also received the prestigious Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2019.
