HERNDON, VA -- An elderly Herndon woman who was initially charged with malicious wounding is now being charged with murder after her husband died when she assaulted him, police say.

Police were called to the 400 block of Patrick Lane on Feb. 19 to a report of an aggravated domestic assault, and took 79-year-old Thuan Tran to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, which he died from three days later, according to a report from the Herndon Police Department.

Police arrested his wife, 77-year-old Nhan Pham, at the scene and and initially charged her with malicious wounding, the report states.

In an update, Herndon Police say the grand jury amended the charges to murder on March 18.
