Herndon Wrestlers Split Conference Tri-Meet

From Herndon High School: Herndon split a pair of conference wrestling on Wednesday, January 11 at Robinson. The Hornets opened with evening with a convincing 48-30 win over Oakton but ended the night with a lopsided 70-6 defeat at the hands of host Robinson.

The team is now 1-1 on the season in dual meets and will be in action again on Saturday, January 14 at Westfield when the Hornets will compete in the 1st annual Eddie Camper Duals. The dual tournament is set to start at 9 a.m.

Herndon 48, Oakton 30

The Hornets opened the night with an impressive showing against Oakton, rolling past the Cougars by the score of 48-30 as they won eight of the 14 weight classes.

Sophomore Trey Passmore started a run of Hornet victories when he scored a pin at 160lbs. Freshman and first-year wrestler, Sam Sturm, filled in for the Hornets at 170lbs. and earned a pin to notch his first varsity win of his young career. Sophomore John Proctor scored an early takedown and built his lead in the second period to take a 7-3 decision at 195 lbs. Junior Chris Estrada blew open a tight match at heavyweight be scoring three second-period points to earn a hard-fought victory. Freshmen K.T. Elston wrestled up a weight class, at 120lbs., and was able to get the fall.

Robinson 70, Herndon 6

It took until the sixth match of the dual meet until the Hornets could get in the victory column as the 3rd ranked team in the state, the Robinson Rams, defeated Herndon 70-6. Heavyweight Chris Estrada kept the Hornets from getting shut out with his first period pin. Robinson led early and often, and simply outmuscled the Hornets up and down the line-up.
