Man Arrested for Stealing Mail from Herndon Post Office

Postal inspectors arrested a man Monday, Aug. 11 after reportedly stealing from a Herndon Post Office collection box at 590 Grove Street.

A man accused of stealing mail from a Herndon collection box could face five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Rodney Scott Carter, 48, of Berryville, Va. was arrested Monday, Aug. 11 on suspicion of stealing mail from a collection box outside the Herndon Post Office at 590 Grove Street. Postal inspectors recovered stolen mailpieces with many containing checks and gift cards, according to the United States Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement arm of the U.S. Postal Service.

Carter is charged with one count of mail theft. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.
